Ask Mirta

WHEN SHOULD YOU GET YOUR DRESS ALTERED?

The sooner is better.  I recommend six to eight weeks before the wedding to start with your alterations, hems, and bustles.  Two weeks before the wedding we meet again to make sure everything is to your liking.  This is especially important if you happen to lose weight right before your big day.  You do not need last minute worries.  When you know your dress fits to perfection you can relax.  The dress is be ready to be pressed at delivery.

HOW MANY FITTINGS SHOULD I PLAN?

Most wedding gowns require at least two fittings, plus the final fitting on the day you are scheduled to pick up your gown.  Three common alterations include: hemming, bodice, and bustle. The first fitting is designed for you to try on your gown, decide on what alterations are needed.  Some if not all your alterations will be completed by your second fitting, with future alterations if necessary until your dress fits perfectly.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING FOR THE FIRST FITTING?

Your dress, bra, any support garments, and the shoes you plan to wear with your dress.  If you have not decided on the shoes bring a pair with the heel height you wish to find.

SHOULD I BUSTLE THE DRESS?

Bustling is a personal choice and involves lifting and securing your train after the ceremony.  This optional alteration depends on the size of the train.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF THE ALTERATIONS?

The costs of your alterations are individualized for each client and depend largely on the time and material involved. However, since I am an independent, professional seamstress I work directly with you which reduces any overhead costs for Bridal Salon or commercial space.

Estimates typically run close to the initial pricing, although if the client chooses to add extras or additional detailing the cost can change. I will not price more if the dress needs to be taken in due to weight lose before the wedding.

WHO WILL PRESS MY GOWN?

Clients should ask the place of purchase if they do FREE pressing on the gown they sell.  Dress pressing by me can be done at a very reasonable price.
